About
Made in the style of Evelyn Ackerman in 1970 this Mid-Century modern wall mosaic will add instant excitement to your space. Mounted on board, a rainbow of rough-cut slag glass pieces are arranged to depict a singer / piano player cheerfully tickling the ivories accompanied by a bird and a butterfly. It’s a psychedelic piece that calls to mind the Beatles yellow submarine or Peter Max’s stylized illustrations. This is a rare original mosaic piece by American painter Janice Lefton de Luigi. Janice (Cecilia) Lefton (de Luigi) was a Chicago born, American modernist painter who's works show the influence of Cubism, Synchromism and Psychedelia. Lefton studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and began exhibiting there. She married the successful Italian surrealist painter/sculptor Ludovico De Luigi and after years of working together in Venice and exhibiting throughout Europe, the couple set up residence in the US in the late 1960s. Signed “Janice” in glass pieces in the top right corner accompanied by a lengthy inscription on the back, mostly in Italian. It reads: Janice Lefton De Luigi 1970 Venezia Italia Piscina san Moise 2053 “La Donna Che Suona Il Pianoforte E Canta” “the lady who plays the piano and sings” Venice, 1970 less
