Description: This piece is a marvel. It is one of the largest porcelain plaques we've seen. It has gold throughout in cloisonne style. The workmanship is fantastic and was created by a well accomplished artist. When the light hits it the gold shines and the color of the blue is striking. It is a large piece, wall hanging, in a wonderful mortise and tenon rosewood frame. It is 35 7/8" tall x 20 7/8" wide framed The seals read (they were translated for us by a person fluent in Chinese): Oval seal 乾隆御览之宝 which means ‘‘Treasure appointed for Qianlong Emperor’s court (Qianlong was the fourth Qing emperor, he reigned from 1735 to 1796). The right seal, 石渠宝笈 [Shiqu Baoyu] - name of the collection of calligraphy and paintings from the Qing dynasty imperial court. The left seal, 三希堂精鉴玺 'Seal of Sanxitang (or 'Three rarities Hall' - a place in Emperor's palace in Beijing where rarities were kept. The bottom seal, are two squared (framed) characters 觀鵝 after the inscription, they are private seals. The whole meaning is: "With respect by the humble servant Ding Guan (Guan'e'). Ding Guan (Guan'e) (丁觀鵝) is the artist who lived and painted in the earlier years of Qianlong Emperor's reign period. The age of this piece is undetermined. We have had conflicting appraisals, from the 18th century to the 19th century. In any case, it is a beautiful piece of work done by a very talented artist.
